By , Editor | The Jazz Line

The 2014 Rochester, NY Jazz Festival lineup has been revealed.

More than 1,200 musicians are due to perform at more than 300 shows organized by the festival, which runs from June 20-28 and sprawls across 50 stages and venues located all over Rochester, NY.

There are far too many performers to list, but just a few of the performers highlighted by the festival include; vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant, pianist Vijay Iyer, trumpeter Roy Hargrove, guitarist Bill Frisell, and organist Joey DeFrancesco. Other notable performers include Snarky Puppy, Janelle Monáe, Michael McDonald, Buddy Guy, and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Actor-musician Steve Martin‘s (‘Father of the Bride,’ ‘Planes, Trains & Automobiles’) bluegrass experiment with the Steep Canyon Rangers also returns to Rochester. He last performed at the festival in 2012, where his first show sold out so quickly organizers had to book a second show just to meet demand. For 2014, they’re performing at a larger venue, but they still had to book a second show after the first one sold out in just a few days.

Presented by Xerox, the festival also holds a number of free concerts every year. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, the Marcus Miller Band, and Lou Gramm are just a few of the artists due to perform on free outdoor stages throughout the festival.

More than 20 high school and youth bands will also perform at the festival, playing a key role in summer audience and artist development in the NY area. The festival will also host a number of jazz workshops for aspiring musicians of all ages.
