Jeff Lorber Fusion set Release Date for New Album, ‘Galaxy’

By , Editor | The Jazz Line

Keyboardist and composer Jeff Lorber has set a release date for his next album, titled ‘Galaxy’.

The album marks the return of Lorber’s Funk/Fusion group Jeff Lorber Fusion, whose past members have included some of the most influential names in Jazz today, such as Chick Corea, Dave Koz, and Kenny G.

In starting out, the group was heavily influenced by fusion pioneers such as Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, and Return to Forever. Jeff Lorber Fusion took Jazz Fusion one step closer to funk, and with constant collaborations with a seemingly endless list of popular and influential musicians, Jeff Lorber Fusion carved out a sound that was unique in the jazz fusion world.

The latest iteration of the Jeff Lorber Fusion lineup includes bassist Jimmy Haslip, saxophonist Eric Marienthal, trumpeter Randy Brecker, percussionist Lenny Castro, guitarists Paul Jackson Jr. and Larry Koonse, and drummers Vinnie Colaiuta and Dave Weckl.

Co-produced by Haslip and Lorber, ‘Galaxy’ will feature eleven original recordings, including four tracks said to be favorites from fusion’s early catalogue.

Jeff Lorber Fusion’s ‘Galaxy’ will be release on January 31, 2012 on Heads Up International.
