Smokey Robinson’s Message To Egotistic “Artists”

“You didn’t start this. You are not the first in line… Also, you are not the end of the line, so don’t be so full of yourselves.” – Smokey Robinson.

While accepting his lifetime achievement award at last night’s BET Awards, Smokey dropped some truth on the new generation of self-centered “artists” that seem to be everywhere in music these days.

Once described by Bob Dylan as “America’s greatest living poet,” Smokey is one of the most prolific writers from the Motown era with over 4,000 songs under his belt; including The Temptations’ “My Girl,” Stevie Wonder’s “Tears Of A Clown,” and Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t That Peculiar.”
